Tips for a Better Podiatrist Visit

At Pasco-Hernando Foot & Ankle, we’re always looking for ways to improve our improve patient experience and ensure that we’re meeting your needs. Our podiatrist, Dr. Lawrence J. Kales, is your partner in maintaining and improving the health of your feet. Below are some ways to help make your time with the podiatrist as productive as possible.

Do the Legwork—a little prep before your appointment can go a long way to ensuring a satisfactory outcome. Some tips to help:

  • Bring a written list of questions or concerns you currently have regarding your feet. If you have a chronic condition that the foot doctor is treating, be sure to mention any new or worsening symptoms.

  • Have a list of medications and supplements you are currently taking ready so the podiatrist can update your records and avoid interactions with other potential prescriptions.

  • If you are experiencing foot pain or other uncomfortable symptoms that seem to be connected to exercise or walking, bring the shoes you normally wear for these activities—they may provide clues about what’s causing your pain.

  • Let the office know ahead of time if you have any special needs for your visit.

  • Ask a family member or friend to accompany you if you think it might be helpful.

Dialogue with the Doctor—this is your opportunity to get the information you need to care properly for your feet.

  • Go over the list of questions you prepared.

  • Be specific about the details of your foot condition—when it started, how bad the pain is, when it gets worse or better.

  • Make sure you understand the foot doctor’s diagnosis and treatment plan for your podiatric problem. Ask questions if you don’t!

  • If you are given a new prescription, be sure it’s clear how you are to take it and any side effects you should be aware of. Alert the doctor to any adverse reactions you’ve had to medication in the past.

  • Don’t hesitate to ask the foot doctor about ways to be proactive in the health and care of your feet.

Don’t Forget the Follow-up—your podiatric care continues after you leave the office.

  • Make appointments for any tests the podiatrist asked you to get and fill all prescriptions.

  • Schedule follow-up appointments as needed.

  • Let the doctor know if your symptoms worsen or you have any trouble with your treatment.

  • Call the office for test results.

  • If you have any other questions after your visit, don’t hesitate to contact our Hudson office by calling 727-868-2128 or 352-683-5799.
